Let the Festivities Begin!

Here are a few pics from the Halloween festivities we have had thus far. My Mom and Dad threw a party for the little kids - complete with doughnut bobbing, pumpkin bowling, pin the face on the Jack 'o Lantern, and much more. It was a hit! We are all excited for Halloween and I hope that Kyler and Halle's teeth don't rot out of their heads before the week is over.

My Mom - bobbing for doughnuts on a stick. What a clown!

My Mom is the clown and my little brother Lincoln in the cross dressing beauty queen. It took Halle a long time to figure out that the blonde girl was actually Lincoln.

Pumpkin carving for FHE - always a highlight.

Happy Halloween!

Primary Program

Today was Kyler's first primary sacrament meeting program. He has been so excited for it and has been working so hard on all of the songs. His part was, "I am thankful for the Holy Ghost." I was so proud of him - those 7 little words truly brought tears to my eyes. He is such a handsome guy and looked just like a little missionary today. I am glad that I have 15 more years until he has/gets to be a real missionary.

Where have I been?

I hardly remember how to sign into my blogger account seeming how it has been a while since I have posted anything. Where have I been, you may have wondered...I have been cutting. That is right, cutting. The first cause for my scissor bruised fingers is that I have been putting together a Family Home Evening packet. For an enrichment group, we exchange FHE packets every 6 months (you may remember my intimidation over the last exchange). I have had 6 months to put 16 packets together on the 8th Article of Faith. Not surprisingly, I waited until the last 2 weeks to put my FHE plan in motion. Unfortunately, I came up with a silly idea that involved cutting 20 little game pieces for each packet - cutting, laminating, cutting again, then cutting Velcro and attaching to each piece. I finished at about 5 pm on the night of the exchange. To tell you the truth, I am so sick of the 8th Article of Faith that I may skip that lesson when it comes up in the rotation. I am very relived to have my packet done and can now wait 6 more months to stress out again. (For those of you that remember my last experience, I knew what to expect this time so was not so surprised by the laminated recipe cards and such. It also helped that no one brought their packet in a personalized binder.)
The second reason for all my cutting is that I have had Kyler's preschool at my house for the past two weeks (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). Kyler has a great class and I actually truly enjoyed teaching -Ky was thrilled to have school at his house. I was assigned the letters L and I to teach. I have now cut my share of leaf cookies, lions, ice cream cones (another silly idea that involved cutting 48 scoops of ice cream out of construction paper), and Indians. I feel like a new woman now that my projects are over and I can't wait to start a new week scissor free.

So What Type of Mom are You?

So I believe there are basically two types of Mom's in this world, those who make their kid's Halloween costumes, and those that don't. OK, that may be an over-generalization... I didn't leave room for people like me that aspire to make darling Rainbow Bright and Dalmatian costumes, but sent my kids last year as Spiderman (store bought and borrowed from a friend) and a clown (a bargain from the DI with a little homemade embellishment). (As a side note, the reason I mentioned Rainbow Bright is because in the early 90's there was some sort of play in Rexburg that every 5th grade girl was involved in. Every girl had a great Rainbow Bright costume that involved foam tubing and bright striped material. For the 15 years since you always see one or two tattered Rainbow Brights trick-or-treating in Rexburg, can anyone back me up on this?)

You see, I grew up in the day before store bought Halloween costumes were a big market (at least that is what I remember. It is a possibility that store bought costumes for all 8 kids in my family was just not an option). I remember my Mom making great costumes for us when we were little. When we were 3 and 4 my brother Zach and I went as Santa and Mrs. Claus. We even won some sort of prize at the Archer School carnival. A few years later, my Mom made a mermaid costume for me complete with a shimmering tail. The only problem was I could not walk in it so I had to be carried door to door to trick or treat, darling nonetheless. One year my brother Luke was the singing Moon from the McDonald's commercial (Does anyone remember that commercial? He would sing "When the clock strikes, half past six Babe, time to head for Golden Lights! It's a Good time, for a great taste. Dinner. at McDonald's is Mac Tonight. Come on make it Mac tonight, yeah!)

I feel lucky to be on the first end of the 8 kids in my family - after a few years, and a few more costumes that had to made, my Mom's enthusiasm seemed to wain (with good reason, she had 8 kids, I would be lucky if they were all dressed and fed everyday). I remember one year my sibling went as a banana at the last minute (a slip-and-slide wrapped around them with a green hat, creative). One year my little brother Wyatt was Static Man ( a creative way of using the 1000s of mismatched socks we had at home. She safety pinned all the socks to his clothing with a cape that said Static Man).

You see, since I only have 2 kids, I feel some sense of obligation to use a glue gun, shimmering satin, and lots of yarn at Halloween time. My problem is that my skills have the possibility of leaving my children looking a little homely and old fashioned next to their Power Ranger and Cinderella counterparts. It is an internal struggle for me.

So I am curious about your thoughts on the subject.

Do you make costumes? Do you buy them?

Do you feel any sort of duty, obligation, or guilt?

What are your kids going to be this year?

Under Construction

I am trying to do some jazzying up. Please stand by and disregard any color clashing that you may have inflicted upon your eyes in the next little while. THANKS!

Wyatt's Wonderful Wedding

We just returned from Rexburg and had a great time participating in all of Wyatt's wedding festivities. Dan finagled it with his work so that he got to do some training in the Idaho Falls branch Wednesday through Friday. We went to Rexburg Tuesday night and stayed through Sunday. We had a great time and the wedding was perfect. Ashlie and Wyatt were both so darling and gracious. We loved being a part of it.
The happy couple. The reception was supposed to be outside but at the last minute it started raining and the party was quickly moved to a nearby church.

The Sutton Boys - what a handsome clan.

Kyler and Halle at the reception. They had this great picture taken before the wedding - isn't it incredible? Ashlie grew up on horses - so this is perfect for her. She will have to work pretty hard to get Wyatt turned into a cowboy.Wyatt and Ashlie riding off into the sunset. Kyler, Ceigan, Halle, Riley, and Gracie waiting outside of the temple.

Our family at the reception.

Surprise!

I was 90% sure I was having a boy. This goes to show I have no maternal instinct whatsoever. She is healthy and we couldn't be more thrilled.

What is Your Guess?

I have an appointment for an ultrasound tomorrow afternoon. I am super excited and hope to see that the baby is very healthy. I am convinced I know what I am having - but keep in mind I bought a dress for Kyler before he was born. So what is your guess? Boy or Girl? Let me know.
